.jpg) Taiwan is increasingly becoming an aged society, and one of the government's most important responsibilities is to ensure that the elderly can enjoy their later years. That's the message President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) delivered in a speech when she was in town to attend a plaque unveiling ceremony at Minhsiong Township's Lu-der Group Home (露德家園), a mission of the Sisters of Our Lady of China Catholic Social Welfare Foundation (天主教中華聖母社會慈善事業福利基金會). Her choice of occasion is apropos, as Chiayi County has, at 17.84%, the highest percentage of elderly in the nation.
The current long-term care program for seniors will be upgraded to "version 2.0" in the coming new year, expanding both services and categories of eligible participants in the program, with the goal of integrating existing care institutions to create a comprehensive and affordable network of localized services, President Tsai said.
Under the new version of the program, every township, village and city is required to establish a flagship center, and Lu-der Group Home is the first in Taiwan to be so designated.
We are very honored and encouraged by President Tsai's visit to our group home, and will continue do our best to provide the elderly the highest quality tender loving care, and joyfully do our part to make the implementation of "Long-term Care 2.0 (長照2.0)" a success, said the chairperson of The Sisters of Our Lady of China Catholic Social Welfare Foundation, Sr. Lucy Chen, OLC (陳美惠).
While she was here, President Tsai also took in a demonstration of our first-in-Taiwan mobile bath van, which travels all over the island to provide the disabled and bedridden bathing services.
Taiwan can proudly show the world how we take care of the elderly and ensure they enjoy a happy, dignified life, she said. |
