New day care and community dining hallThe Sisters of Our Lady of China Social Welfare Foundation has established the Zhongpu Day Care Center and the Nuan-nuan (¡§warmth¡¨) Community Dining Hall. On the morning of March 27, 2019, officials representing the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Chiayi County and other VIP and community representatives joined Mother General of the Sisters of Our Lady of China Sister Lucy Chen for the grand opening ceremony. The new facilities introduces innovative mixed-use community care models, such as Japan's old-age friendly furniture and electric lift-type washstands. They are the first to be incorporated in community care models for day care centers, community dining halls and Evergreen Life Station. Up to 224 elderly residents of the rural village of Zhongpu will now have a place to socialize, receive quality nutritious meals and their adult children can leave for work, safe in the knowledge that their parents will spend their day in a safe and caring environment. Sister Lucy Chen announced that, in addition to providing day care services for the elderly, the Zhongpu Nuan-nuan Community Dining Hall which will provide 150 meals a day for seniors 65 years and older. Assessment for appropriate additional assistance will be available for disabled or urgent needs families. Those with low income and financial difficulties are welcome to share meals on-site or have meals delivered to their home. The cost for an average income household will only be 25 $NT (less than 1 US dollar). It is hoped that the elders of the community will utilize the facilities and come for companionship with their friends and neighbors. The OLC Social Welfare Foundation strives to improve and maintain their quality of life by helping the elderly actively increase their cognition, concentration and physical fitness and decrease their risk of muscle loss and falls as they age.
