Building a Smart Hospital

St. Martin De Porres Hospital is advancing next-generation medical diagnostics and treatments by introducing robotic-assisted surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and AI-powered imaging analysis systems. The hospital is equipped with a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, including the da Vinci Surgical System, 640-slice CT integrated with AI, ROSA robotic-assisted knee replacement, AI-assisted gastrointestinal endoscopy, minimally invasive spinal endoscopic surgery, PET imaging with AI support, and fully digital mammography enhanced by AI—standing shoulder to shoulder with leading medical institutions in Europe, the United States, and Japan.
As the first hospital in the Yunlin–Chiayi region to successfully implement comprehensive computerization, and among the first nationwide to fully pass electronic medical record (EMR) inspection, the hospital continues to lead in healthcare innovation. In recent years, it has actively embraced smart healthcare, and in 2024 established an Artificial Intelligence Development Center, marking the beginning of its "AI Era." Through the successful development and deployment of multiple AI applications, the hospital is realizing its vision of smart healthcare—creating a triple-win outcome that promotes patient health, enhances the quality of care, and strengthens operational efficiency.

Providing Integrated and Continuous Healthcare Services

Local Care with Global Standards

Advancing Integrated Healthcare Services
As a designated hospital within Chiayi City’s emergency medical service network, St. Martin De Porres Hospital is fully equipped to manage critical conditions, including major trauma, acute stroke, and acute coronary syndromes. To secure the critical window for life-saving treatment in cases of stroke or intracerebral hemorrhage, the hospital has implemented an automated emergency triage SMS notification system, online medical record access, and real-time imaging interpretation technologies. These are further integrated with a post-admission case management information system, ensuring continuous, comprehensive treatment and coordinated care.
In the area of chronic disease prevention and management, the hospital has established integrated care programs for diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and liver disease. Guided by a patient-centered approach, these programs emphasize strengthened physician–patient communication, self-management support, health education seminars, patient support groups, and diverse educational initiatives. Through this systematic model of chronic care, the hospital effectively delays the onset of complications and delivers structured, long-term disease management.

Cancer prevention and treatment are delivered through multidisciplinary collaboration, establishing a "Five-Whole" care model—whole person, whole team, whole course, whole family, and whole community—to provide personalized, comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment services. In addition, the hospital has independently developed an Electronic Patient-Reported Adverse Events (ePRAE) System, enabling chemotherapy patients to self-assess side effects at home and report them in real time, thereby enhancing care efficiency and patient safety. Mother-and-baby-friendly care is delivered through interprofessional collaboration, providing diverse and comprehensive maternal and child health education resources. These efforts support parent–child bonding and promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of both mothers and infants. The hospital also advances innovative breastfeeding support models by integrating technology and creativity, including the development of a multilingual health education app to help both local and international expectant and new mothers access complete and reliable parenting information.
With more than 20 years of service in the Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan region, the Occupational Medicine Center is dedicated to the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses and the promotion of workers’ health. The center has pioneered an integrated, end-to-end medical and rehabilitation care model for occupational injuries, providing comprehensive services from diagnosis to functional rehabilitation. As a result, it has become the only designated hospital in the Chiayi region to receive dual certification from the Ministry of Labor for both Occupational Injury Diagnosis and Treatment and Occupational Injury Functional Rehabilitation.

Safeguarding Health and Sustainability

Seamless Integration of Medical Care and Long-Term Care
St. Martin De Porres Hospital actively advances long-term care services by building a comprehensive care network that spans institutional care, home-based services, and community care. By integrating medical expertise with local resources, the hospital ensures that older adults receive continuous and appropriate care wherever they are, while emphasizing prevention and the delay of functional decline. Through community health promotion, seniors are supported in aging safely and comfortably within familiar living environments.
The hospital’s affiliated nursing home, the largest long-term care facility in the Yunlin–Chiayi region, brings together interdisciplinary and cross-professional teams to achieve seamless coordination between medical treatment and long-term care. In addition, the expansion of home-based medical services enables seniors with limited mobility or disabilities to receive ongoing medical care in the comfort of their own homes.
Within the community, the hospital has introduced a range of innovative long-term care models that set new benchmarks nationwide, including mobile bathing services for people with disabilities, group homes for individuals with dementia, bathing and assistive technology education centers, heated drying vehicles, community cafés for people with dementia, St. Ren Dementia Care Community, and the Longxing Multifunctional Long-Term Care Service Park. These initiatives not only enhance the accessibility and diversity of services, but also integrate advanced technology with human-centered spatial design, creating long-term care environments that are safe, warm, and dignified—bringing the principle of people-centered care into everyday practice.

Responding to the needs of the communities and cherishing every life, St. Martin De Porres Hospital actively puts ESG principles into practice, moving steadily toward a future that is safe, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable.
In the area of energy conservation and carbon reduction, the hospital has progressively replaced outdated equipment with high-efficiency, energy-saving appliances, environmentally friendly building materials, and green medical supplies. Smart monitoring systems have also been introduced to optimize energy management and improve operational efficiency.
In addition, the hospital regularly conducts education and training programs to deepen employees’ understanding and implementation of ESG concepts. These efforts further strengthen organizational resilience and green competitiveness, demonstrating the hospital’s ongoing commitment to building a sustainable healthcare environment for the future.
