Day Care for Seniors
Since July, 2003, we have been practicing the ¡§cherish of our elderly neighbors¡¨ principle, establishing 16 day care for seniors centers in the 12 townships of Jhongpu, Shueishang, Fanlu, Jhuci, Meishan, Lioujiao, Potzu, Yihu, Lucao, Putai, Dongshih, and Alishan.
In Chiayi City, our hospital superintendent Chen Mei-Hui was so convinced of the benefits, she did not let lack of government funding deter us from creating ¡§Chiayi City Community Day Care for Seniors Stations.¡¨ Since October, 2003, three such stations have been established in throughout the city.
Our community-based day care for seniors is marked by ¡§warm, compassionate, reassuring¡¨ service in a familiar environment. Their attendants speak language they grew up with (Taiwanese) and are from this area, the food has the same taste from their youth, these connections to ¡§home¡¨ are preserved. We offer low impact exercises developed in Japan to maintain physical mobility and the resources of St. Martin de Porres Hospital are available to support a variety of engaging activities. Taiwanese culture has a strong tradition of veneration of the elderly, and this is reflected in our case. |
